Access Giles County Court Records

Start with the right office, because Giles County court case records sit with the clerk of whichever court handled the matter, not in one shared Tennessee database. The circuit court clerk keeps files for the county's trial courts, while Chancery cases and city matters run through their own channels. Appeals and older holdings are separate again. When you make a request, say whether you want to view the docket, get a plain copy, or need a certified copy for formal use, since that choice shapes what the records office can do. Seals, redactions, and other limits under Tennessee law still apply to anything you ask for. A clear case number and exact document names go a long way toward finding the file fast.

Giles County Court Record Requests

There is no verified public Giles County trial-document viewer. Start with the office that keeps the case. The Circuit Court Clerk holds Circuit, General Sessions, Juvenile, and Traffic records. The Clerk & Master holds Chancery records, including probate and listed family matters. Both offices are at 1 Public Square, Pulaski, and use P.O. Box 678, Pulaski, TN 38478. Their published weekday hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  1. Name the court and exact product, such as a docket sheet, order, judgment, sentencing order, decree, will, or filed pleading.
  2. Provide the case number, full caption or party name, filing year, document date, and requested copy type.
  3. Call, email, mail, or visit the correct clerk. Ask whether supervised inspection or a public terminal is available because no public terminal is confirmed.
  4. For a written county request, use the official form and choose inspection, pickup, mail, electronic delivery, or another approved method.
  5. Ask for a fee estimate and confirm whether the copy should be plain, certified, or exemplified before payment.

Public Case History is online, but it covers Tennessee appellate cases rather than Giles trial files. CourtFeePay is a payment channel, not a record viewer. Current city-court files remain with each municipal clerk, while old holdings may be at Archives. Those limits make a direct clerk request the most reliable route.

Giles County Court Record Form

The April 2026 Giles County Public Records Request Policy provides a written copy form. It asks for requester contact details, Tennessee citizenship, inspection or copy choice, delivery preference, a detailed record description, signature, and date. Useful descriptions include the record type, date range, subject, keywords, court, case number, and exact item sought. The form does not have separate boxes for a docket, judgment, or certified copy, so state those needs in the description.

Inspection requests are coordinated with the office that maintains the record. Copy requests can be made in person, by mail, or by email. The policy requires reasonable proof of Tennessee citizenship and calls for a response within seven business days through production, a written denial, or an extended timeline. It does not require Giles County to create a new report that does not exist.

Request tip: Ask the clerk directly about certification. The county form does not publish a certified-copy fee or guarantee electronic delivery.

Kinds of Court Records

A court record is broader than a docket. The docket is the chronological index. Filed papers contain the substance behind those entries, and a certified copy bears the clerk's authentication. Giles County records can include several distinct products.

  • Docket sheets and chronological case entries
  • Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and notices
  • Signed orders, judgments, sentencing orders, and decrees
  • Bond papers, payment ledgers, and allowed exhibits
  • Probate wills, estate papers, and Chancery decisions
  • Transcripts ordered through the court reporter

Some items need a different route. Transcripts come from the reporter, with contact obtained through the clerk. Historical records may be held by Giles County Archives. Appellate records can include clerk-certified trial papers and transcripts under Tennessee Rule of Appellate Procedure 24.

Giles County Historical Court Records

Giles County Archives is the documented route for selected older files at 211 South Cedar Lane, Pulaski. Its holdings include Circuit, County, and Chancery court records, wills, marriages, deeds, newspapers on microfilm, and genealogy files. The Archives lists Chancery records from 1810 through 1900, wills from 1810 through 1940, and marriage records from 1865 through 2000. Call 931-363-8434 before treating an active case as archival.

The official Archives page shows its record holdings and research route.

The holdings list makes Archives valuable for historical and genealogy work, but the active clerk should be contacted first for a current file.

Court Records: What They Contain

The contents depend on case type and access status. Giles County has not published a local public viewer schema, but clerk records and state reporting material support a core inventory. Ask for specific items instead of requesting an undefined “whole record,” especially when a file is large.

Case numberThe clerk's locator; AOC reporting codes include 28A1 Circuit and 28A2 Chancery.
Docket sheetDated filings, settings, continuances, orders, and disposition events.
PleadingsComplaints, petitions, answers, motions, responses, and notices.
Orders and judgmentsSigned rulings and the court's formal result.
Exhibits and identifiersAvailable only when public; confidential material can be withheld or redacted.

A verbal status report or screen view is not the same as a certified record. When another court or agency requires proof, ask which signed order or judgment is needed and whether clerk certification is required.

Choose the document by the question it must answer. A docket sheet is best for the sequence of filings and settings. A signed judgment or sentencing order establishes the court's formal result. A complaint or petition states the opening claim, while an order shows how the judge ruled on a later request. Probate researchers may need the will plus the order admitting it, and a divorce inquiry may call for the final decree rather than the full family file. Ask whether exhibits are stored with the clerk and whether a transcript must be ordered from the court reporter. This precise approach saves staff from searching for an undefined file and keeps restricted material out of an overbroad request.

Two Giles County Record Keepers

Natalie Bass Oakley's office has four major record portfolios: Circuit, General Sessions, Juvenile, and Traffic. Staff functions listed on the county page include criminal, civil, juvenile, traffic, child support, expungement, and payment work. Crystal Gibson Greene's Clerk & Master office maintains Chancery decisions and can supply added copies of divorce decrees, probated wills, and other final-adjudication documents.

Copy Fees and Certification

Inspection is free under the county policy. The reproduced OORC schedule lists guideline charges for standard copies, while court-specific certification and transcript fees were not found in official Giles sources. Ask for an estimate before ordering a large file and do not assume the general copy rate covers certification.

ItemPublished amount or status
Public-record inspectionFree under county policy
Standard black-and-white copyUp to $0.15 per page under the reproduced guideline
Standard color copyUp to $0.50 per page under the reproduced guideline

Labor beyond the free threshold and actual costs for storage media, vendors, delivery, or archive retrieval may apply. The policy allows an estimate, and the form lets a requester waive an estimate up to a stated amount.

Access Rules for Court Records

Public access is broad but not absolute. Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 says court records may be inspected unless the Public Records Act, another law, a court rule, a seal, or a protective order makes them confidential. Juvenile, adoption, expunged, and sealed materials may be restricted. Personal identifiers may be redacted.

Key rules:

Supreme Court Rule 34 defines case records and identifies protected categories.

Tennessee Code Annotated § 10-7-503 and county policy support citizen inspection and the local request process.

Tennessee Code Annotated § 10-7-504 preserves statutory confidentiality and does not open a protected file merely upon request.

The official Rule 34 page shows the statewide court-record framework.

Federal Records Outside Giles County Courts

Federal dockets are separate from Giles County court records. Giles lies in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, and the district identifies a Columbia location. PACER provides federal docket and document access after registration. It does not search Circuit, General Sessions, Chancery, or municipal records.

The official Middle District website identifies the federal court and its locations.

Giles County Federal Record Fees

PACER charges are federal electronic-access fees, not Giles County copy charges. The published rate is $0.10 per page with a $3 cap for most case-specific documents and reports. Court opinions and courthouse terminal access are free, and charges are waived when quarterly usage is $30 or less. Audio files have a separate $2.40 fee.

The official PACER pricing page explains caps and free-access rules.
